ShipperGuide + Shippo Integration User Guide

This guide walks you through integrating Shippo with ShipperGuide to streamline your shipping operations.

Loadsmart just launched parcel shipping inside ShipperGuide, and Shippo is the engine behind it. If you already run truckload and LTL on the platform, you can now rate shop and buy USPS labels side by side, bring your own negotiated carrier contracts, and track packages, all without opening a second system. The partner (Loadsmart) owns the experience you see in ShipperGuide; Shippo works behind the scenes to keep the carriers connected.

Before starting the integration, make sure you have:

  • An active ShipperGuide account
  • An active Shippo account
  • A carrier integration set up in Shippo

If you don't have an active Shippo account yet, you can create one directly from the ShipperGuide Shippo app.

Integrate Shippo with ShipperGuide

You have two ways to create a Shippo account. Both result in the same experience inside ShipperGuide.

Option A: Through ShipperGuide (recommended)

When your Loadsmart implementation team enables parcel in your ShipperGuide environment, you'll see an option to connect your Shippo account directly from within the platform. Clicking that link launches Shippo's secure OAuth flow, where you can create a new account or sign in to an existing one. Once you complete the flow, ShipperGuide and your Shippo account are automatically linked, so there are no credentials to copy or paste.

To connect your account:

  1. In the top-right navigation, click the gear icon and go to Settings.
  2. On the Settings page, click the Connections tab (the rightmost tab, alongside Account, Admin, Billing Info, Users, Shipments, and Procurement).
  3. Scroll down to the Shippo section. You'll see an "Account connection" row showing a gray status indicator and a Connect account button.
  4. Click Connect account. This redirects you to Shippo's secure sign-up or sign-in page, where you can create a new Shippo account or log into an existing one.
  5. Complete the Shippo account setup, including selecting your plan and adding payment information.
  6. After granting access, you're automatically redirected back to ShipperGuide.

After connecting:

The Shippo card updates to show a green connected status indicator, the button changes to Disconnect account, and your Shippo account email is displayed in a read-only Shippo account field.

Option B: Through Shippo's referral landing page

If you'd rather set up your Shippo account before your ShipperGuide environment is ready, Loadsmart will provide you with a dedicated referral link. Create your account through that link, then use those same credentials when prompted during the OAuth flow inside ShipperGuide.

What to expect from Shippo: After you create your Shippo account (by either method), Shippo's sales team will reach out by email to offer onboarding resources and answer questions about your account setup.

Before you start: Make sure your carriers are already configured in your Shippo account (app.goshippo.com → Settings → Carriers). ShipperGuide syncs whatever carriers you have active in Shippo, including USPS and more.

Choose Your Shippo Plan

Once your account is created, you'll be asked to select a Shippo plan. For most ShipperGuide customers, the relevant pricing looks like this:

Plan type Cost Best for
BYOA (Bring Your Own Account) Approx. 5¢ per label Customers with existing FedEx, UPS, or other negotiated rates
Shippo Master Account (USPS only) No per-label fee Customers who want to use Shippo's discounted USPS rates without a separate carrier account

Connect Your Carrier Accounts in Shippo

Once your Shippo account is active, log in to the Shippo web dashboard to connect your carrier accounts. This is where you enter your existing carrier credentials (account numbers, billing information) so Shippo can generate labels on your behalf using your contracted rates.

To access the Shippo dashboard:

  1. Go to app.goshippo.com and log in with the credentials you created in Step 1.
  2. Navigate to Carrier Accounts in the left-hand menu.
  3. Click Add Carrier and follow the prompts for each carrier you want to connect.
  4. For each carrier, you'll need your carrier account number and, in some cases, your billing postal code or meter number. These are available from your carrier representative or existing account portal.

Note on carrier account numbers and payment terms: If you ship under different payment terms (for example, prepaid shipments billed to your account vs. collect shipments billed to the receiver), each payment scenario requires a separate carrier account number. Make sure to enter all relevant account numbers in Shippo.

For example, USPS issues separate account numbers for Prepaid, Collect, and Third-Party billing. Each should be entered as its own carrier account in Shippo.

Confirm Your Setup with Loadsmart

Once your Shippo account is created and your carrier accounts are connected, notify your Loadsmart account manager or implementation contact. The Loadsmart team will:

  • Confirm that your Shippo account is properly linked to your ShipperGuide environment via OAuth.
  • Verify that carrier accounts are visible and return rates correctly.
  • Conduct a test rating and booking transaction before go-live.

There's nothing you need to share with Loadsmart from Shippo directly, since the OAuth connection handles authentication automatically. Your Shippo credentials remain private to you.

Payment and Billing Process

Understanding how you'll be charged helps you set up the right internal AP workflow before go-live.

Payment method on file: A credit card is required when you first create your Shippo account. This is a mandatory step at account creation and can't be skipped. Once your account is active, you can contact Shippo support to add ACH as a payment method and remove the credit card from your account if you'd rather not keep a card on file long-term.

Billing cadence: Charges accrue against an open invoice and are charged automatically to the payment method on file when either (a) the invoice reaches your account's billing threshold, or (b) seven days pass, whichever happens first. The default threshold is $100, but it can be adjusted based on your shipping volume and account history. If you prefer a predictable cadence, Shippo can also set your account to bill daily on request.

What runs through this process:

  • Shippo's per-label BYOA fee (approx. 5¢/label)
  • USPS postage, if you're using Shippo's USPS Master Account

What doesn't run through Shippo: If you're using your own BYOA carrier accounts under your existing negotiated rates, that carrier bills you directly per your existing account terms (prepaid, collect, or third-party billing). Shippo doesn't see, process, or have visibility into those carrier invoices.

Important: Your commercial agreement, carrier contracts, and label billing are directly between you and Shippo. Loadsmart isn't a party to those terms.

All billing for Shippo services, including shipping labels and subscription fees, is handled directly by Shippo, not Loadsmart. You'll be charged based on your monthly shipping volume, with plans starting at $19/month. For full details, see our pricing.

There's no additional charge from Loadsmart to use the Shippo integration. All billing, invoicing, and receipts come directly from Shippo. If you're new to Shippo, you'll be prompted to choose a subscription plan during onboarding.

Access your billing and invoicing in Shippo

  1. Log in to the Shippo app.
  2. Go to Settings → Account → Billing.
  3. Download invoices, update payment methods, and view pending transactions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to sign a separate contract with Shippo?

Yes. By creating a Shippo account and selecting a plan, you're entering a direct commercial relationship with Shippo. Your carrier terms, label billing, and account support are all governed by Shippo's terms of service, independent of your ShipperGuide agreement.

Will Loadsmart see my carrier rates?

ShipperGuide receives rate results from Shippo (the amounts returned for rating) but doesn't store or have access to your underlying carrier contract terms or account credentials.

What if I don't have existing carrier contracts?

If you don't have negotiated rates with a parcel carrier, you can use Shippo's USPS Master Account to access Shippo's pre-negotiated USPS discounts at no per-label cost. You can add your own carrier accounts later as your shipping program matures.

Do I need to provide a credit card?

A credit card is required when you first create your Shippo account. Once account setup is complete, you can contact Shippo support to switch to ACH and remove the credit card from your account.

How often will I be billed?

Charges are billed to your payment method on file when your open invoice reaches the account's billing threshold (default $100) or after seven days, whichever comes first. Daily billing is available on request if you'd prefer a predictable cadence.

What format is the shipping label returned in?

When you book a parcel shipment in ShipperGuide, the label is returned as a PDF. You can print it from ShipperGuide using standard PDF printing, or pass it to a connected system such as a WMS. Direct printing to a Zebra or ZPL thermal printer from within ShipperGuide isn't available in the current release.

Is parcel settlement handled through ShipperGuide?

No. Parcel invoice reconciliation and settlement are handled directly between you and Shippo or your carriers. ShipperGuide's settlement functionality covers LTL and FTL modes only in the current release.

Can I ship HAZMAT items through ShipperGuide parcel?

Limited-quantity HAZMAT is supported. Fully regulated HAZMAT shipments aren't currently supported for FedEx or UPS through Shippo. This is a known gap on our roadmap — contact your Loadsmart account manager to discuss options if this is a requirement for your shipments.

Can I ship multiple boxes as part of one order (multi-piece/multi-box)?

Not in the current release. Each package must currently be booked as its own individual parcel shipment rather than as a single multi-box shipment. Multi-piece support is a planned future enhancement.

What carriers are supported?

Shippo connects to all major US parcel carriers, including regional ones. Your specific carrier availability depends on which accounts you connect. For the current list of certified carriers in the ShipperGuide parcel integration, contact your Loadsmart account manager or solutions contact.
