Fishbowl Advanced + Shippo Integration User Guide

This guide walks you through integrating Shippo with Fishbowl Advanced to streamline your shipping operations.

The integration connects Fishbowl's warehouse management platform with the Shippo multi-carrier shipping platform. Once it's set up, you can compare rates, generate labels, and track shipments without leaving Fishbowl.

Before starting the integration, make sure you have:

  • An active Fishbowl Advanced account
  • An active Shippo account with API key

If you don't have an active Shippo account yet, you can create one directly from the Fishbowl Shippo app.

Integrate Shippo with Fishbowl

Step 1: Log in to your Fishbowl ShipExpress account

  1. Click Link Shippo Account.

  1. Sign in (or create) your Shippo account.

  1. Add payment details (required to complete the integration).

  1. Approve access when prompted.
  Note: If you have multiple warehouses, set up a separate Shippo integration with a different sender address for each one.

 


Configure Fishbowl Account Settings

After integrating Shippo, configure your vendor settings in Fishbowl.

Ship from settings

Add sender addresses for each warehouse. Click + to set which address is used when shipping from each location group.

Product settings

Add the country of origin and tariff number for international orders. Click + to assign a product's country of origin and tariff number.

  Tip: You can batch import and export this data via CSV.

 

Address settings

Address fields are already mapped between Fishbowl and Shippo, but you can adjust them if needed.

Customer settings

Configure carrier accounts and billing preferences. Click + to set up a customer with their own preferences.


Connect Carriers in Shippo

  1. Log in to your Shippo account.
  2. Go to Settings → Carriers.
  3. Connect your preferred carriers (UPS, FedEx, DHL, USPS, and more).

  1. Return to Fishbowl to map services: go to the Carrier Settings section and click + to integrate Shippo carriers.


Generate Shipping Quotes

  1. In Fishbowl, go to a Sales Order and click Shippo.

  1. Click Quote to view available rates.
  2. Select a rate and apply it to the order, then click Add to Sales Order.
  Note: Test accounts won't display quotes.

 

  1. Click the Shipment Extras button to access additional shipment options.


Purchase and Manage Labels

Purchase a label

Select the order, go to Purchase Label, verify the address, then click Purchase Label.

Batch shipping

Buy multiple labels at once.

  

Quick Ship

Purchase a label in one click using your default settings.

  

View or download labels

Click View Labels to display any label you've purchased.

Cancel a label

Go to Order → Shipping → Cancel Label.


Track Shipments

  Note: Orders must be processed for tracking to appear.

 

  • Process the order to move it to Processed Orders.
  • Find the tracking number and the clickable link.


Billing and Returns

Billing is handled directly in Shippo (Settings → Account → Billing).

Returns

Click the Return Label button in the Sales Order module to generate a return label for credited items on the sales order.

Refund a label

Click Refund Labels for the selected shipment.


Auto-Apply Low-Cost Shipping Insurance (Fishbowl ShipExpress)

Go to Integrations → ShipExpress → Settings → Global Settings Options and check Always add insurance for cartons that exceed $X amount. Then choose the option that fits how you want coverage applied:

  • When shipment value exceeds (enter amount). Adds insurance only when the shipment value is equal to or greater than the amount you set.
  • Use flat rate (enter amount). Adds the same insured value to every shipment.
  • Use suggested insurance based on cost. Insures the shipment for the product's replacement cost.
  • Use suggested insurance based on price. Insures the shipment for the product's sale price.

Terms

  • US domestic (shipping from the US to the US): 1.25% of declared value
  • International shipments (for example, US to the UK): 1.65% of declared value
  • Coverage includes lost, stolen, and damaged goods

Shippo Billing

Subscription billing

There's no additional subscription charge to use the Shippo integration through Fishbowl's interface. If you purchase labels through Shippo's application directly, you'll be prompted to choose a subscription plan during onboarding.

Shippo carrier accounts and insurance billing

When you connect your own carrier account, the billing relationship for postage stays between your business and the carrier. We don't bill you for postage due against your own FedEx or UPS account. When you use Shippo's discounted carrier accounts and shipping insurance, the billing relationship for postage and insurance is between your business and Shippo.

Access your billing and invoicing in Shippo

  1. Log in to the Shippo app.
  2. Go to Settings → Account → Billing.
  3. Download invoices, update payment methods, and view pending transactions.


Troubleshooting

Issue Fix
Unable to connect to Shippo Verify that your Shippo account is active and billing information is added.
API key not working Generate a new API key in Shippo and re-enter it in your Fishbowl settings.
No shipping quotes shown Confirm the order weight and dimensions are entered and carrier services are mapped.
Label not generating Make sure addresses are valid, product tariff info is set for international orders, and the carrier supports the service.
Return label not created Use the Return Label option in the Sales Order module, or log in to Shippo directly.
Tracking not appearing Orders must be processed in Fishbowl for tracking details to sync.
