Before you start shipping for real, get a feel for how your account works with test mode. It's a sandbox environment that lets you:
- Walk through the label-creation process to get familiar with how Shippo works.
- Create fake labels, so you won't be charged.
- See mock rates, which may differ from the live rates you'll see once a carrier is in live mode.
See the FAQs below for more on how test mode works.
Switch to test mode
- Go to the Carriers Page by clicking the Settings icon, then selecting Carriers from the sidebar.
- Click the Edit link next to the carrier.
- Check the Enable test mode box.
- Click Save.
Once test mode is on, your orders will show Test Mode next to the carrier on the Orders page.
Test mode FAQs
- Some rates shown in test mode are placeholders rather than accurate figures. For example, USPS First Class Package and USPS Parcel Select rates won't be correct in test mode, though most other USPS rates will be.
- Any label you “purchase” by clicking Buy Label in test mode isn't real, and you won't be charged. Test labels print with VOID or Sample Do Not Use, so you can get a feel for the purchase process and see what your labels will look like without touching a live shipment.
- Test labels appear on your Shipments Page, marked Test in the Tag column.
- Creating a test label for an imported store order won't mark that order fulfilled, either in Shippo or in your store platform.
