FAQ's

How does billing work with Shippo's UPS Carrier Account?

When you use Shippo's UPS Carrier Account, all billing runs through Shippo.

Third party billing (API users): Shippo's UPS Carrier Account doesn't support third party billing. If you set up third party billing as an API customer while using our carrier account, you'll be charged based on UPS's terms for our carrier account, and the third party billing information won't be applied.

How do I file a claim or dispute for a UPS label created through the carrier account?

Shippo handles all claims and disputes for lost or damaged packages, as well as carrier adjustments, on your behalf.

If you run into a problem with your shipment, reach out to us at support@shippo.com, or through live chat or phone by clicking the Support button in your Shippo dashboard. Please have this on hand when you reach out:

  1. The tracking number for the shipment.
  2. An explanation of what happened (lost or damaged package, or an incorrectly applied carrier adjustment).

Once we have that information, we'll reach out to UPS on your behalf to work through your claim.

Note: UPS must receive notice of claims within 60 days of delivery or, if delivery never happened, within 60 days of the scheduled delivery date.

Guaranteed service refunds

If UPS didn't attempt delivery by the guaranteed date and time (for example, you purchased UPS Next Day Air but delivery took 3 business days), your shipment may qualify for a refund. Contact support@shippo.com within 15 calendar days of the scheduled delivery date with your tracking number.

Note: Review UPS's UPS's Terms & Conditions for Money-Back Guarantees to confirm your shipment is eligible for a refund. You can find the list of eligible domestic and international services here.

How long are UPS labels active?

Use your labels within 30 days of purchase. The exception is return labels, which stay valid for 100 days.

Restricted and prohibited items

You can find UPS's full list of prohibited items here, and more details on shipping Hemp and CBD here.

Vaping products: Effective April 5, 2021, UPS no longer transports vaping products across its US network (domestic shipments, imports, and exports). A "vaping product" is any product intended for human consumption by inhalation that relies on vaporization or aerosolization, including e-liquid, electronic cigarettes, electronic cigars, electronic cigarillos, electronic pipes, electronic vaping product delivery pens, hookah pens, and similar devices.

Shipping vaping products through UPS may result in a $150 fee per package, along with termination of service. Find more information at this link.

Can I schedule package pickups?

Package pickups aren't currently supported for labels purchased with Shippo's UPS Carrier Account.

How do I request a refund for UPS labels created on Shippo's UPS Carrier Account?

Follow the steps in "Refund a Label" to request a refund. If a label goes unused, Shippo credits you for its cost, and that credit is applied toward your next invoice.

If you'd rather have that credit refunded to your payment method on file (as long as it hasn't already been applied to an invoice), just ask and we'll take care of it.

If you use a label after receiving a credit for it, Shippo bills you again for the shipping fees.

How will carrier adjustments be applied for UPS labels?

Entering your shipment's weight and dimensions accurately is essential to getting charged the right rate. If your entered dimensions don't match the actual package, UPS may apply additional fees. Shippo receives any adjustments from UPS weekly and passes them on to you.

The most common carrier adjustments on UPS labels:

  • Delivery access charges
  • Additional handling fees

Less common carrier adjustments:

  • Saturday Processing Fee ($16): applied when packages are inducted (dropped off and scanned) into the UPS network on a Saturday. This applies to UPS Second Day and Overnight service levels, not UPS Ground.
  • UPS Overmax Fee ($1,775 per package): applied to shipments that exceed UPS's maximum allowed dimensions.
Note: UPS rarely approves disputes for Overmax adjustments. UPS measures packages as they move through its system (typically at their largest point) using high-tech lasers, so any bulge or discrepancy gets caught. Given that process and the accuracy of their measurement system, UPS stands firmly behind the dimensions they audit.

If you're shipping a larger package, UPS allows shippers to send it through their small package network as long as it's under these limits:

  • Actual weight of 150 pounds or less
  • Length of 108 inches or less
  • Length plus girth [(2 x width) + (2 x height)] totaling 165 inches or less

Packages over these limits get additional charges from UPS, and UPS can return them to you at your expense. To help avoid unexpected carrier adjustments:

  • Make sure your packaging holds its shape in transit.
  • Enter exact measurements, and round up when you're close to the next size bracket.

You can find more on each adjustment type, and how to avoid them, on the UPS website.

Disclaimer: Discounts are off UPS daily rates. Rates are limited to shipments originating in the US. Rates and any applicable discounts are subject to change at any time, without notice.
