FAQ's

How does billing work with Shippo's UPS Carrier Account?

When using Shippo's UPS Carrier Account all billing will be done through Shippo and we will bill you following our regular billing process

Unlike the previously created personal Shippo UPS Marketplace accounts, you will not need a personal UPS account login in order to pay your UPS bills.

Third Party Billing (API users): Please note, Shippo's UPS Carrier Account does not support third party billing. If you are an API customer and you setup third party billing, while using our carrier account, you will be charged based on the UPS terms for our carrier account and the third party billing information will not be applied.

How do I file a claim or dispute for a UPS label created through the carrier account?

All claims and disputes for lost or damaged packages, as well as surcharges, will be handled by Shippo for our customers.

If you run into a problem with your shipment, please reach out to us at support@shippo.com, or through live chat/phones by clicking the “Support” button within your Shippo dashboard. When reaching out to support please have the following information handy:

  1. Tracking number for the shipment
  2. Explanation of what happened (was the package lost or damaged, was a surcharge applied incorrectly).

Once we have this information we will reach out to UPS on your behalf to work with them on your claim.

Note:

UPS must receive notice of claims within sixty days after Delivery of the Package or, in case of failure to make Delivery, within sixty days after the date of scheduled Delivery.

Guaranteed Service Refunds

If UPS did not attempt delivery by the guaranteed date and time (i.e UPS Next Day air was purchased, delivery took 3 business days), your shipment may be eligible for a refund. Please contact support@shippo.com within 15 calendar days of the scheduled delivery date, with the tracking number.

Note:

Please review UPS's Terms & Conditions for Money-Back Guarantees to ensure your shipment is eligible for a refund. You can find a list of eligible domestic and international services here.

How long are UPS labels active?

All labels should be used within 30 days; with the exception of return labels. UPS return labels are valid for 100 days.

Restricted and Prohibited Items

UPS Prohibited Items:

A full list of UPS Prohibited Items can be found here.

Additional information regarding the shipping of Hemp and CBD can be found here.

Vaping Products:

Effective April 5, 2021, UPS will no longer transport Vaping Products in the U.S. network (domestic shipments, import, and export). "Vaping Product" means any product intended for human consumption by inhalation that relies on vaporization or aerosolization, including but not limited to e-liquid, electronic cigarettes, electronic cigars, electronic cigarillos, electronic pipes, electronic vaping product delivery pens, hookah pens, and any other similar devices that rely on vaporization or aerosolization.

Shipping Vaping Products through UPS may result in a $150 fee per package, as well as termination of service. You can find more information at this link.

Can I schedule package pickups?

At this time, package pickups for labels purchased with Shippo's UPS Carrier Account are not supported.

How do I request a refund for UPS labels created on Shippo's UPS Carrier Account?

If you wish to request a refund for a UPS label you can follow the steps outlined here: Refund a Label

If a label is not used, Shippo will credit you for the cost of the label. The credit will then be applied toward future label purchases and will be deducted from your next invoice.

Please note: We are always happy to remove the credit (if it has not been applied to an invoice) and issue the refund back to your payment method on file when requested.

If you use a UPS label after a refund has been credited to you, Shippo will bill you again for the shipping fees.

How will surcharges be applied for UPS labels?

Accurately entering your shipment's weight and dimensions is essential in ensuring you're charged the correct rate. If the dimensions entered don't match, you may be subject to additional fees from UPS. Shippo receives any applicable surcharges from UPS weekly and passes those on to you.

The most common types of surcharges that are applied to UPS labels are:

  • Delivery access charges
  • Additional handling fees

Additional less common surcharges:

  • Saturday Processing Fee
  • UPS Overmaximum Surcharge

Saturday Processing Fee - This charge is applied when UPS packages are inducted (dropped off and scanned) into the UPS network on a Saturday. This applies to UPS Second Day and Overnight service levels and does not apply to the UPS Ground services. The UPS Saturday Processing Fee is $16

UPS's Overmax surcharge - This surcharge is for shipments that are over the maximum dimensions allowed by UPS. The over-maximum limit surcharge is $1,025 per package.

Note:

It is highly unlikely that UPS will approve disputes for Overmax surcharges. UPS measures packages as they travel through their system ( typically when packages are at their largest) and is calibrated using high-tech lasers so any bulge or discrepancy is easily detected. Due to the process followed and the quality of their measurement system, UPS is confident in the accuracy of the dimensions they audit.

If you're considering shipping a larger package, UPS allows shippers to ship large packages through their small package delivery network if they are under specific size and weight requirements. The following are not accepted for transportation:

  • Packages with an actual weight of more than 150 pounds
  • Packages exceeding 108 inches in length
  • Packages exceeding a total of 165 inches in length plus girth [(2 x width) + (2 x height)] combined, as measured to determine their billable weight

Packages above these limits are subject to additional charges from UPS. UPS reserves the right to return packages above these limits to the shipper at the shipper’s expense. Please see the following helpful tips to help avoid unexpected surcharges:

  • Please ensure your shipment packaging is designed to withhold its shape in transit
  • Enter exact measurements for your package and round up if measurements are close to the next measurement

You can find more information about each of those surcharges, and how to avoid them, on the UPS website.
