Creating Package Templates For Faster Shipping

If you're using the same package size often, we recommend setting up a package template. It saves you the time of entering specific dimensions and weight every time you ship with the same box or envelope. Here's how to create both custom and carrier-provided package templates.

Creating a package template

To create a package template:

1. Click the Settings icon from the main dashboard.
2. Select Packages from the navigation bar on the left.
3. From the Packages page, go to the Package Templates section.
4. Click + New Template.

Custom dimensions:

1. Choose Custom Dimensions from the dropdown menu.
2. Select Box, Tube, or Poly Mailer.
3. Enter your package dimensions and weight (optional).
4. Name your package template.
5. Select Set as default package template for label purchase.
6. Click Save Template.

Carrier provided parcels:

1. Choose Carrier Provided Parcels.
2. Select the carrier-provided parcel you'd like to use from the dropdown menu.
3. Enter weight (optional).
4. Select Set as default package template for label purchase.
5. Click Save Template.

You can save up to 25 package templates in your Shippo account, and choose any of them during the label creation workflow.

Tip: Apply your package template to matching orders automatically

When you purchase a label using a package template, Shippo checks for other unfulfilled orders with the same item and quantity. If it finds matches, you'll see a prompt in the Download Label panel asking if you'd like to apply the same package template to those orders too, saving you from updating each one individually.

After applying the template in bulk, you can also save it as an Automation Rule, so future orders with the same item automatically get assigned the correct package template. See "How to Set Automation Rules in Shippo" to learn more.
