Customizing your Package Settings in Shippo

The Packages page in Shippo lets you set default units of measurement and create package templates, streamlining your label creation process so you can get orders out faster. Here's how to access and set up your Package Settings, and create a package template.

Accessing your Packages page

To access your Packages page:

  1. Click the Settings icon from the main dashboard.
  2. Click Packages in the navigation panel on the left.

From here, you can manage your default package weight unit, package measurement unit, and package templates.

Setting default units of measure

The Default weight unit field sets which unit of weight displays by default when you create labels.

To set your default unit of measure:

  1. Open the dropdown arrow.
  2. Choose grams, kilograms, ounces, or pounds.
  3. Click Save.

The Default distance unit field sets which unit displays by default for package dimensions when creating labels.

To set your default distance unit:

  1. Click the dropdown arrow.
  2. Choose centimeters or inches.
  3. Click Save.

Note: These become your app-wide defaults, but you can always switch to a different unit for a single order if you need to.

Creating a package template

If you find yourself using the same package size often, we recommend setting up a package template. It saves you the time of re-entering the same dimensions and weight every time you ship with the same box or envelope.

To create a package template:

  1. From the Packages page, go to the Package Template section.
  2. Click New Template.

Custom Dimensions:

  1. Choose Custom Dimensions from the dropdown menu.
  2. Select Box, Tube, or Poly Mailer.
  3. Enter your package dimensions and weight (optional).
  4. Name your package template.
  5. Select Set as default package template for label purchase.
  6. Click Save Template.

Carrier Provided Parcel:

  1. Choose Carrier Provided Parcel.
  2. Select the carrier-provided parcel you'd like to use from the dropdown menu.
  3. Enter weight (optional).
  4. Select Set as default package template for label purchase.
  5. Click Save Template.

You can save up to 25 package templates in your Shippo account, and choose any of them during the label creation workflow.

Tip: Once you've created your package templates, Shippo can suggest applying them to other unfulfilled orders with the same item during label purchase, and even help you save the selection as an Automation Rule for future orders. See "Creating Package Templates For Faster Shipping" for details.
