Shippo gives eligible accounts access to a variety of FedEx service levels through our FedEx Platform Account. You can also connect your own FedEx account to view your negotiated rates and create shipping labels directly in Shippo. This article walks you through connecting your existing FedEx account.

⚠️ Important update from FedEx (effective 2026): FedEx is retiring its current Web Services system and launching a new one with enhanced security.
See below for how to verify your account and what shipping updates to expect. |
Connect an existing FedEx account
To connect your FedEx account to Shippo:
- Go to Settings > Carriers > Your Accounts in the Shippo web app.
- Click + Connect Carrier Account at the top of the page.
- Click FedEx.
- Enter the required information and click Submit.
If you ship internationally:
- Check Allow purchase of international (cross-border) labels through this account.
- Upload your company logo and digital signature when prompted.
- Logo: under 5MB, max 700x50 pixels, GIF or PNG only.
- Signature: under 5MB, max 240x25 pixels, GIF or PNG only.
- Click Next.
- Choose a verification method:
- Verification code validation: Shippo sends a code via SMS, phone, or email. Enter the code in Shippo.
-
Invoice validation: Enter details from your most recent FedEx invoice (invoice number, date, amount, and currency).
- Click Connect Account to finish setup.
FedEx API Changes (Effective 2026)
FedEx is moving to a new, more secure API system. As part of the migration, new field requirements and validation rules apply when you create FedEx shipping labels through Shippo. If required information is missing or doesn't meet the updated criteria, label generation may be affected.
When do these changes take effect?
- If you use your own FedEx account with Shippo: As soon as your FedEx account is verified.
- If you use Shippo's FedEx account: Starting January 13, 2026.
Sender phone number (now required)
A valid phone number is required for the sender.
Phone numbers must be between 10 and 15 digits.
Labels created without a sender phone number will return an error.
Updated name and company field requirements
FedEx now enforces character limits on these fields:
- Name field: at least 3 characters, no more than 70.
- Company field (optional): if included, must be 3 to 35 characters.
Fields outside these limits will cause label creation to fail.
What happens if these requirements aren't met?
If required fields are missing or exceed the character limits, FedEx returns an error and the label doesn't get created. This can happen even for shipments that worked before, without these details.
Required FedEx fields
- FedEx Account Number
- Your Contact Information
- FedEx Shipping Address
- SmartPost Hub ID (if applicable)
| Note: The address entered in Shippo must exactly match the Shipping address listed in your FedEx account |
FedEx billing after you connect
FedEx bills you directly for any FedEx postage purchased in Shippo.
Shippo bills for the label creation fee (Starter plan users) or monthly plan fees (Pro and Premier plan users), plus any optional insurance you've purchased.
Update an existing FedEx connection
FedEx now requires four-factor authentication for third-party sites like Shippo, which adds a stronger layer of security for your personal account information. If your FedEx account was connected to Shippo under the old two-factor authentication, you'll need to update that connection with your contact information and FedEx shipping address to keep using FedEx.
To update an existing connection:
- Go to the Carriers Page in Shippo by the Settings tab and clicking Carriers in the left navigation panel.
- Click on the Edit link to the right of your FedEx connection.
- Your FedEx account number will already be filled in and grayed out. Enter the remaining required information, then click Submit:
| Note: The address entered in Shippo must exactly match the one listed in your FedEx account |
FedEx test accounts
FedEx provides two separate sets of credentials for every account: one for testing (Development) and one for live labels (Production). Test credentials can't be verified through FedEx's four-factor authentication, so they can't be added to Shippo at this time.
FedEx account verification FAQ (effective 2026)
Why do I need to verify my FedEx account?
FedEx is retiring its current Web Services system and moving to a new system with enhanced security. To keep purchasing FedEx shipping labels through Shippo, you'll need to verify your FedEx account in Shippo's settings before March 31, 2026.
When can I complete the verification?
Verification opens on January 13, 2026. Once it's live, you'll see a Verify Account button next to your connected FedEx account in your Shippo dashboard.
What happens if I don't verify by March 31, 2026?
After March 31, you won't be able to create or purchase FedEx shipping labels in Shippo until your account is verified. Your other carrier accounts stay unaffected.
Will my negotiated FedEx rates or services change?
No. Your existing rates and authorized FedEx services stay exactly the same after verification. The process only confirms your account under FedEx's new system.
What information will I need to verify my account?
You'll verify your account in one of two ways:
- Verification code validation: FedEx sends a code to your registered SMS, phone, or email.
- Invoice validation: You'll enter details from your most recent FedEx invoice (invoice number, date, amount, and currency).
I manage multiple FedEx accounts. Do I need to verify each one?
Yes. You'll need to verify every FedEx account connected to Shippo individually.
