Common Issues when Printing Labels, Packing Slips, and PDFs in Safari

Heads Up:

Apple has released a fix for this problem. Ensure you have upgraded to macOS 10.14.5 (Released May 14), which contains Safari 12.1.1

When using the Safari browser, you may encounter the following problems:

  • When clicking Download Label, the Label PDF will open in a new browser tab or window, but no print option is displayed.
  • After downloading a Label or Packing Slip and opening it in Safari, hitting Cmd+P gives an audible error sound, but no print dialog appears.

Ultimately, you will be unable to print PDFs downloaded from Shippo in the same way you may be used to after installing Safari 12.1 for MacOS.

Is there a solution?

Yes, upgrade to macOS 10.14.5 which will also give you Safari 12.1.1, which contains a fix for this issue.

If you are unable to upgrade macOS, there are currently two known workarounds which will allow you to print downloaded documents from Shippo without problems:

  • Hold down the Cmd/Command/⌘ Key when clicking to download a document in Shippo.
  • Use a browser other than Safari. We recommend Chrome, but there are many fine alternatives.

We strongly encourage you to upgrade to macOS 10.14.5, as Shippo is not able to provide a fix for issues inside Safari itself.

How will Shippo fix this?

This issue appears to be a specific quirk with Safari 12.1, and therefore the issue is with the browser itself. Apple's Community Support members are also experiencing similar issues.

While this impacts Shippo customers, it is unfortunately not within our abilities to fully resolve this issue. Please see the workarounds above.

Please upgrade to macOS 10.14.5 to benefit from a permanent fix from Apple.
